The invoice template (copy this layout)
A clean sole-trader invoice has three blocks — who, what, and how to pay:
- Header: "Tax Invoice" (or "Invoice"), your business/trading name, your ABN, your address, email and phone.
- Bill to: the client's name (and business/ABN if they have one), the invoice number (e.g. INV-0001) and the date.
- Line items: a description of the work, with either hours × rate or quantity × unit price, then a subtotal.
- Totals: subtotal, GST (10%) shown separately if you're registered, and the total due.
- Payment: your bank account name, BSB and account number, and a due date or terms (e.g. "Payment due within 7 days").
A worked example

- GST (10%) … $40.00
- Total due … $440.00
Pay to: Jordan's Plumbing · BSB 000-000 · Acct 12345678 · Due within 7 days.
Template vs. app
A Word or PDF template is fine for your first invoice. But every invoice after that means re-typing your ABN and bank details, updating the number, and doing the GST maths by hand — easy to get wrong, and slow. SortedMate stores your details once and auto-fills them, calculates GST, numbers your invoices, and exports a polished PDF in seconds. And because it also tracks your receipts, your income and expenses stay in one place for tax time.
